I have a stubborn patient who only understands self-destructive ways of becoming stronger. Though there are so many words I would like to say to him, they will not come.

I've regretted being deaf. I don't want to regret being mute. Regret, after a certain amount of time, takes physical form.

I hope that this person will hear me before their recovery ends. Or there might be no end to it.

Try not to be disheartened when this person ignores you or even becomes angry for you getting involved in something that is none of your business, doctor or not.

Know your battles, Tezuka. Know when you push forward and when to back off.

I beg to differ, it is very much a battle. A battle of wills. Is his will to defy you greater than your will to assist him?

His will isn't to defy me. His will is to compete. If I can convince him to be more patient with his body, he will be able to fight his battle longer and with more skill.
